What is VoIP?
Voice over IP carries phone calls over your internet connection instead of a traditional phone line. Extensions and call handling are managed in software rather than on a box on the wall.
Can I keep my existing business number?
Yes. In most cases we can transfer your existing business telephone number to the new system and manage the porting process for you.
Do I need new desk phones?
You don’t have to. The free mobile and computer apps work on their own, so your team can make and take calls without a desk phone. If you do want desk phones, they’ll need to be new VoIP handsets, from €149 excl. VAT (Yealink).
Can staff use the phone system from home?
Yes. Users can make and receive business calls from supported devices wherever they have a suitable internet connection.
Can calls ring more than one person?
Yes. Hunt groups, simultaneous ringing and call-routing rules can all be configured.
Can we have an automated “Press 1 for Sales” menu?
Yes. Auto attendants can greet callers and route them to the correct person or department.
What happens when we hire a new employee?
We can add users, extensions, numbers and handsets as your business grows.
Who supports the phone system?
Sweeney Computer Services provides ongoing support through our helpdesk.
Does VoIP need good internet?
Yes. Call quality depends on your network and internet connection, which is why we review these before installation.
Is there a minimum contract?
Yes, there’s a one-year minimum contract.
What happens if our internet goes down?
We’ll be straight with you: your desk phones run over your internet connection, so if the internet goes down, the desk phones go down with it. The good news is the mobile and desktop apps work anywhere with a connection, so your team can keep taking calls on a mobile or laptop until your internet is back.
How long does it take to move our existing number?
Moving an existing number over usually takes 3 to 4 days. We look after the process for you.
Can we keep using our old desk phones?
If you want desk phones, you’ll need new VoIP handsets. These start from €149 excl. VAT (Yealink). The mobile and desktop apps are free, so not everyone needs a desk phone.
Are calls to Irish mobiles included?
Yes. Calls to Irish mobiles are included in your unlimited UK & Ireland calls.
Is there a setup charge?
There’s a one-off on-site setup visit, where we come out and get everything up and running. We’ll quote it upfront with your proposal, so there are no surprises.
What are your support hours?
Our helpdesk is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm. Support outside those hours is available at an extra cost.
Can we record calls?
Yes, call recording is available. Just mention it when we’re chatting about your setup.
How much do international calls cost?
International call rates vary depending on where you’re calling. Let us know which countries you ring and we’ll give you a quote.
How long does it take to get up and running?
Go-live typically takes less than a week.
